We are singing the
praises of the Lord today because of his visitation, protection and
strength during our recent trip to India.
We had an awesome trip.
We learned some overwhelming facts about Calcutta which is the
largest city in India. The city boasts 18 million people.
It is reported that 12 million of those people live in 9 square
miles of land which is the size of Dallas Fort Worth airport.
We had the great
privilege of preaching at the Mark Buntain Memorial Church, the
General Council of Northern India and a Bengali church. There
was a mighty revelation and move of Lord in each service.
In a period of ten
days, we preached 10 times, visited the Blind School, the Boys Home,
the church where Mother Teresa ministered, the Mission of Mercy
Hospital, the School of Nursing, the Bible College and the Feeding
Program where over 30,000 are given a hot meal each day. We
also attended a wedding and participated in the dedication of a
baby. Missionaries John and Faith Higgins were terrific hosts
and guides. We were so blessed by their friendship and by
their dedication and work for the Lord in Calcutta. We made
some new missionary friends, Dale and Beth Decker, and they will
remain in our hearts forever.
In addition we had the
privilege of visiting Project Rescue which rescues girl victims of
forced prostitution. We met the director of this ministry.
She allowed us to visit with the women who were being trained by
Project Rescue in skills that will enable them to financially
provide for themselves. Project
Rescue is now raising funds to build a "Home of Hope" for the ladies
so they will not be forced to return to the Red Light District at
the close of a day of training. If you would like to
contribute to the purchase of this home, you can send your check
payable to Acts 20:24 but marked for "Home of Hope."
Also, we were so
blessed to spend time with the young girls, daughters of the victims
of prostitution. There are 19 girls at the "Home of Hope for
Girls", from 4 through 16 years old. They were all so happy.
They shared their artwork, sang songs and danced for Jesus.
They attend church and are healing from physical and emotional
trauma.
The needs of India are
great. The average wage in India is $370.00 a year, a little
over $1.00 a day. Fifty percent of the population is under 25
years old. We pray that God will challenge you to become
involved in meeting the needs of this nation through prayer and
giving.
Thank you for praying
for us. Thank you for giving so that we can go and minister is
countries such as this. We hope to have pictures on our
website very soon.
May God add abundant
blessings to your life as you serve Him.
